At Butlin’s Minehead Resort, four of the top eight seeds lost their matches on the first day of the £500,000 tournament, which featured 32 first-round ties contested over the course of one lengthy darts session. After losing three match darts in a nail-biting last leg on the Main Stage, Ryan Joyce eliminated world number one Price. Joyce, who had a 3-0 lead at one point, missed three match darts of his own before recovering to win via double eight. Joyce will now face a revitalized Jermaine Wattimena, who easily defeated Brendan Dolan in his first match.

A 12-point difference in the averages didn’t stop Ritchie Edhouse from claiming one of the biggest victories of his career, shocking the newly crowned Grand Slam of Darts winner Michael Smith. Smith, who averaged 98, led 5-3 before Edhouse ripped off three straight legs to win. The Enfield ace will now face Dimitri Van den Bergh for a spot in round three after the Belgian prevailed against Martin Lukeman in a grueling match. On his TV debut, German rookie Ricardo Pietreczko pulled off a stunning upset by defeating top seed Damon Heta in a tiebreaker match. He now faces Callan Rydz, who defeated Madars Razma in a comparable manner.

On Saturday, 16 second-round matches will be contested across two stages in the afternoon as the competition for the final trophy before the World Championship continues. Prize Money Pool Distribution of 2022 Players Championship Finals

According to the most recent announcements made by the PDC chairman, the 2022 Championship Finals will have a prize pool of £500,000. In this edition, the winner will receive £100,000 while the runner-up will receive £50,000. Gerwyn Price and Damon Heta will take home £2,500 after being eliminated in the first round.
