Taking to Facebook, Leslie Flavin McCarthy said posted a photo of her father and wrote that he died at 86. She went on to write that her sister, Meredith, was holding his hand and the rest of his family was holding him in their hearts and that he was the Poet Laureate of the Boston Red Sox. Apart from being a poet, Dick was also the voice of Fenway Park, a television journalist, a political commentator and so much more. In his lifetime, he lived so many characters, and needless to say, he excelled in each.

It is said that Flavin also wrote a one-man play about the life of Speaker of the US House of Representatives Tip O’Neill. The play was titled “According to Tip” and it garnered a lot of attention from everyone. Well, it was not the thing that gave him popularity as his greatest fame came when he drove to Florida with former Red Sox players Dom DiMaggio and Johnny Pesky to visit Ted Williams. Sources confirm that he rewrote “Casey at the Bat” and turned it into “Teddy at that Bat” and completely changed the poem’s plot.

Let us tell you that Flavin continued to write poems about the Red Sox and due to the same reason, he became the public address announcer at Fenway Park in 2013. Flavin has kept a blog on his website over the last several years. His last post was “Who’s to blame for the Red Sox Woes?”. It was shared six days before his death. Now, it is coming forward that he has died and has left his loved ones in profound grief. No one seems to believe the news and is taking to social media to discuss the same as how it happened.
