Celebrities are among the more than one thousand names on this year’s Australia Day Honours Listwith late indigenous performer Archie Roach awarded the highest of honours.

Roach has posthumously been made a Companion of the Order of Australia for his “eminent service to the performing arts as a songwriter and musician, to Indigenous rights and reconciliation, and through support for emerging First Nations artists”.

Roach, who died aged 66 in Julyhad previously been made a Member of the Order of Australia in 2015.

The musician wasn’t the only celebrity making this year’s list – the first of King Charles III’s reign.

Australian filmmaker and Rabbit-Proof Fence director Phillip Noyce, 72, was awarded the title Officer of the Order of Australia for his services to the arts as a film and television director, producer, and screenwriter.

Concert promoter Paul Dainty AM was made an Officer of the Order of Australia, primarily for his efforts organising the fundraising concert Fire Fight Australia to raise money for the victims of the 2019/20 bushfires.

He was previously appointed a Member of the Order of Australia in 2017.

Australian actor David Wenham and comedian Jean Kittson are among the newest performers recognised as Members of the Order of Australia.

Wenham, the 57-year-old Elvis and red Mill actor who is from Queensland, was given the honour “for significant service to the performing arts as an actor and producer”.

While former Celebrity Apprentice star Kittson, 68, from NSW was recognised “for significant service to the arts as a performer, writer and comedian”.

Kylie Minogue’s former longtime manager Terry Blamey was also made a Member of the Order of Australia in the 2023 honours list “for significant service to management in the music industry”.

Since 1974, Blamey has managed Australian stars including: Deni Hines, Gina G, Fiona Horne, Richard Clapton, Dannii Minogue and older sister Kylie Minogue AO OBE, whose career he steered for 25 years before they parted ways in 2013.

Australian producer Bruna Papandrea from NSW, a long-time collaborator with Reese Witherspoon and Nicole Kidman, was also recognised as a Member of the Order of Australia.

She’s made hit TV shows and filmd including Big Little Lies, Nine Perfect Strangers, Anatomy Of A Scandal, Penguin Bloom and The Undoing.

TV correspondant Philip Williams and TV doctor, Dr Norman Swan, both from NSW, were recognised for services to Broadcast by being made Members of the Order of Australia

Bump and Secret Life of Us actress Claudia Karvan, 50, from NSW was awarded a Medal of the Order of Australia “for service to the film and television industry”.

Journalist and former Today host Steve Liebmann was also given a Medal of the Order of Australia in the 2023 list, “for service to the broadcast media as a journalist”.

Country music singers Dianne Lindsay and Peter Simpson, as well as Sydney-based singer Peter Ciani were all awarded Medals of the Order of Australia for their musical work.

Tanya Wilks and John MacKenzie were both recognised for their efforts in radio broadcasting with Wilks a breakfast host for Triple M Newcastle (formerly KO-FM), since 2000 and MacKenzie a talk show host in Cairns since 1983.

Jeweller to the stars Nic Cerrone, whose clients include Barbara Streisand was given a Medal of the Order of Australia “for service to the jewellery industry, and to the community”.

Sydney-based Cerrone was awarded the Knighthood of the Italian Republic in 1994.
