Russian Pop Icon Yuri Shatunov Dies Aged 48

Pop singer Yuri Shatunov, very popular in the 1980s and 1990s, died on Wednesday at the age of 48.

According to the report, the death was unexpected, since Shatunov was actively involved in social media, starred in television programs and planned to tour Russia in the fall.

112 media claimed that Yuri Shatunov died of acute heart failure after falling ill while on vacation with his manager in a Moscow suburb.

Alleged friends of Yuri Shatunov took him to a medical care unit in the village of Rastunovo, where he reportedly told doctors he was suffering from acute chest pains.

An ambulance took Yuri Shatunov to the Domodedovo hospital, but he went into cardiac arrest before he arrived and doctors were unable to revive him.

Shatunov was born in 1973 and spent much of his childhood in an orphanage. At the age of 13 he first began performing with Laskovy Mai along with other residents of the orphanage.

When Laskovy broke up in May 1992, Shatunov launched a solo career but never achieved the same level of success.

He leaves behind a wife, Svetlana, and two children.
